Peru: Our day trip to Machu Picchu with Aleecia

Stunning Machu Picchu

A trip to Peru would not be complete without a visit to Machu Picchu! Seeing Machu Picchu covered with mist was a truly magic moment for us and a once in a lifetime experience, made more special as we got to share it with Aleecia!

We had planned to travel to Machu Picchu in the most cost effective way possible (which involves colectivos and walking on the train tracks to Aguas Calientes for a couple of hours), but after my girlfriend, Aleecia, decided to join us for this section of the trip, we ended up taking the tourist train from Ollataytambo to Aguas Calientes and back (the cheapest train option).

We got up at 4.30am (yawn!) and hiked up to Maccu Picchu from Agua Calientes, rather than taking the shuttle bus with the hordes of other tourists. Although it was a hot and sweaty hike, it was a great choice and we felt that it made the experience more authentic for us. We arrived at the gates around 6.30am and spent the day marveling at the beauty of this world wonder.

Here are a few photo highlights from our day – enjoy!
