Peru: Our day trip to the Nor Yauyos Cochas Landscape Reserve

Stunning Huallhua — at Nor Yauyos-Cochas Landscape Reserve

We had been planning to cycle Andes by Bike’s Peruvian Great Divide (PGD) from the Carretera Central to Huancaveliva, which passes through the Nor Yauyos Cochas Landscape Reserve, but due to time constraints and concerns about the weather we have decided to give it a miss. The rainy season seems to have started and we really want to get to Bolivia asap so that we can cycle both the Salar de Uyuni and the Laguna Route.

We were pretty disappointed about missing out on the Landscape Reserve, so when we saw a day trip to the reserve advertised in Huancayo we decided to do it. Our recent experiences with organised tours have been pretty dismal, but this tour was fabulous! It rained at times and we got stuck in a snow storm on the way back to Huancayo (which confirmed for us that we made the right decision not to attempt the PGD at this time), but the sun came out when it was photo time! How gorgeous is this park!

In total, the day trip took 14 hours (we left at 6.30am and returned around 8.30pm) and cost 90 soles per person (USD27.50).
